Company overview

NVIDIA designs accelerated computing platforms: GPUs, CPUs, networking, and the software that runs on them. It reports two segments. Compute & Networking covers Data Center accelerated computing, networking, AI software, and Automotive platforms; Graphics covers GeForce GPUs for gaming and PCs and RTX GPUs for enterprise workstations. Its customers include all major public and private cloud providers, AI model makers, enterprises and startups, and public sector entities. NVIDIA is fabless and relies on contract manufacturers such as TSMC.

How NVIDIA makes money

Revenue comes from selling chips, systems, and networking products, plus software, to direct customers such as original equipment manufacturers and to cloud providers and enterprises. From fiscal 2027 it reports two market platforms, Data Center (Hyperscale; AI Clouds, Industrial, & Enterprise) and Edge Computing (PCs, game consoles, workstations, robotics, and automotive); before that it reported Data Center, Gaming, Professional Visualization, Automotive, and OEM and Other. Results follow customers’ build-out of data center capacity, product cycles, and the supply of components and manufacturing capacity.

Bull case

Demand for AI and accelerated computing infrastructure could keep growing as customers build data center scale systems, and NVIDIA sells the compute, networking, and software together. Its full-stack platform makes it hard for customers to replace one piece at a time.

Bear case

U.S. export controls restrict shipments of its data center products to China and other countries and have harmed its competitive position there, and the rules can change. Supply constraints at contract manufacturers and for components could limit shipments, and results depend on customers’ spending on data center capacity, energy, and capital.
